What kind of program is it?
This program is a nationwide initiative in Canada/ USA and international run by volunteers, who collect, refurbish and redistribute second hand tools for the benefit of vocational training schools, small-scale cooperative projects and local trades in developing countries (Specially Africa).
Tools for Humanity is introduced this innovative program early 1990s to assist and mobilize youth of ages 15-35 years, who are ex.Gangs in Canada and USA.
In Africa Ex.Child soldiers, Refugee students or out-of-school and Internally Displaced People (IDP) in Africa(Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya and Somalia(South/Central)Somaliland/Puntland)
The leadership and vocational education opportunity program is designed to facilitate a discussion and solid foundation around social enterprise and cooperative development for youth groups. This programs will assist these individuals with their families for accessing services relating to their education and future employment needs, The goal of the program is a holistic integrated vocational technical training and self-help work directly to youth groups and to help balance a solid foundation both future leadership needs and non-violence cultural values. Tools for Humanity have about 3 collection points (Edmonton and Toronto ), Canada and US where companies and individuals donate their used tools. The project activities are financed through fundraising, sponsorships and private donations.
What kind of tools?
T4H mainly provides hand tools and small 220-volts electric equipment for the following vocational technical schools, local trades:
- Carpentry and joinery, Metalwork and goldsmiths
- Auto mechanics, Building and construction
- Sewing, shoemaking, electrical works

Mission Statement of this program
To deliver quality used tools for vocational technical training, small scale enterprises, cooperatives (women and youth), local trades community self help centres in developing countries with the aim to assist people to become self-reliant and earn an independent income.
To contribute sustainable development projects to Africa by making available technical skills and used tools and machinery to meet MDG
To enhance and raise awareness in Canada and USA about MDG and partnership through skill development, cooperation, recycling tools and community economic development participation.
Which kind of projects can apply?
T4H assist local initiatives that lead to MDG , sustainable development and community economic development. In particular locally organized projects focusing on gender oriented projects, vocational training, income generation, and creation of employment, as well as marginalized groups, co-operatives, social enterprises, ecological awareness and environmental protection projects.
T4H will encourage projects in which the target group itself takes the initiative and committed active in initiation, preparation, decision-making and implementation of the project.
